The Stryker library opened in 1930 in the old Mineral Springs Bath House. Since that time, the library has also been in what is the village municipal building today. The library’s current location, at 304 S Defiance St., was made possible by Erie Sauder and the Friends of the Library Group. In 1994, Erie Sauder donated $50,000 for the building fund of the new library. The Friends of the Library then started what became the “Help the Library, Brick by Brick” campaign, where bricks were sold at different contribution amounts so the community could show raise the necessary funds for the new location. In 1996, the new (and current) location was officially opened. The Stryker Friends of the Library Group won the Friends Group of the Year award from the Ohio Library Council for its efforts in helping make the new library possible. The Friends of the Library also support the library by raising money for purchasing books and audio-visual materials, as well as sponsoring library events. The library is a great community fixture with a lot to offer, and everyone there looks forward to servicing the village every day!
